Al Hilal overpowers Al Nassr
Ronaldo's red card sours Al Nassr's hopes
Malcom's late goal seals victory for Al Hilal
Al Hilal defeated Al Nassr 2-1 in the semi-final of the Saudi Super Cup on Tuesday, with Salem Al-Dawsari and Malcom scoring the goals for the winners. Cristiano Ronaldo scored for Al Nassr, but his night ended on a sour note as he was sent off for a reckless challenge in the second half.
The match was played at the Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, and it was a closely contested affair from the start. Al Hilal took the lead in the 61st minute through Al-Dawsari, but Ronaldo equalized for Al Nassr just seven minutes later.
However, Al Hilal regained the lead in the 73rd minute through Malcom, and they held on for the win despite Ronaldo's late red card.
The victory means that Al Hilal will now face Al Ittihad in the final of the Saudi Super Cup on Thursday.
Ronaldo's sending off was a major talking point after the match. The Portuguese forward was shown a straight red card for a reckless challenge on Al Hilal defender Ali Al-Bulayhi.
It was Ronaldo's first red card since joining Al Nassr in January, and it will come as a major blow to the team's hopes of winning the Saudi Super Cup.
