Massive Earthquake Strikes Western Nepal
KATHMANDU, Nepal - Helicopters and ground troops in Nepal were scrambled to help victims of a severe earthquake that struck the western part of the country late Friday, leaving dozens dead and injured.
The death toll from the earthquake, which struck with a magnitude of 6.3, has climbed to more than 150 people, with dozens more reported injured.
The earthquake struck near the town of Doti, in the Doti District, in the far-western region of Nepal, late Friday night. It triggered landslides and caused widespread damage to homes and buildings.
Witnesses reported seeing houses collapse and people trapped inside. Rescue workers are struggling to reach the affected areas due to landslides and roadblocks.
The earthquake comes just eight years after a devastating earthquake struck Nepal in 2015, killing nearly 9,000 people and injuring thousands more.
