British Woman Rescued from Sea
Passenger Describes Harrowing Ordeal
A 70-year-old British woman who went missing from a cruise ship in the North Sea has been found alive after spending 10 hours floating in the water.
The woman, who has not been named, was reported missing from the Saga Sapphire cruise ship on Saturday morning. She had reportedly fallen from the seventh deck of the 294m liner.
A major search and rescue operation was launched, involving the RNLI, the Coastguard, and several other vessels.
The woman was eventually found by a fishing boat around 10 hours after she went missing. She was taken to hospital, where she is said to be in a stable condition.
Daniel Miranda, a passenger on the Saga Sapphire, said an announcement went out early Saturday that someone had gone overboard.
"We were all very worried," Miranda said. "We just couldn't believe that someone had fallen from the ship."
Miranda said that the crew of the Saga Sapphire did a great job in searching for the woman and that he was overjoyed to hear that she had been found alive.
"It's a miracle," Miranda said. "I'm so glad that she's okay."
The woman's family has been informed of her rescue and is said to be "overwhelmed with relief."
