Laurie Hernandez Wins 'Dancing with the Stars' Season 23

Hernandez, 16, is the youngest contestant to ever win the show.

She and her professional partner, Val Chmerkovskiy, beat out fellow finalists Jana Kramer and Gleb Savchenko, and Calvin Johnson and Lindsay Arnold.

Hernandez is a two-time Olympic gold medalist in gymnastics. She won the gold medal in the team all-around and the balance beam at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Hernandez's victory is a major upset. She was not considered to be a frontrunner at the beginning of the season, but she quickly impressed the judges and viewers with her dancing skills and her infectious personality.

"I can't believe I won," Hernandez said after the show. "This is the best day of my life."

Chmerkovskiy said that he was "so proud" of Hernandez.

"She worked so hard and she never gave up," Chmerkovskiy said. "She is a true champion."
