5.2-Magnitude Quake Shakes San Joaquin Valley
A moderately strong 5.2-magnitude earthquake struck in Southern California on Tuesday, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
Quake Felt Throughout Region
The earthquake occurred at 10:40 p.m. PDT on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, and was centered 10 miles southwest of Lamont in Kern County. The quake was felt throughout the San Joaquin Valley, including in Bakersfield, Fresno, and Sacramento.
Damage and Injuries Reported
There have been reports of minor damage to buildings and infrastructure, but no serious injuries have been reported at this time. Emergency responders are currently assessing the damage and assisting with recovery efforts.
Aftershocks Expected
The USGS is warning that aftershocks are likely in the coming days and weeks. Residents are advised to be prepared for aftershocks and to have a plan in place in case of a larger earthquake.
